The Alliance of Pro-Life Students (APS) is a youth-led organization with a unique mission – to bring the pro-life message to the environment where it’s most needed: university campuses. Not only are university students the demographic most threatened by abortion, universities are where people form their views. If we want to bring this country back to life, we need to start with students – the future lawyers, doctors, artists, politicians, parents and teachers.
Why students?
The age demographic most likely to have an abortion are 18 to 24 year olds – the age of university students. The abortion rate in 2018 was highest for women at the age of 21. We need to be bringing the pro-life message to where they are at.
Censorship on campus is continuing to grow. In 2018-19, all Scottish Universities refused affiliation to pro-life socities purely because they did not agree with their opinion on abortion. Multiple students have dealt with protests from their peers when holding events and find growing hostility both in lectures and amongst friends.
Universities are taking political stances on abortion, including showing support for the Irish referndum, and passing pro-choice motions that mandate the university to support the pro-choice agenda.
Our universities are under seige and we need pro-life students to speak up in defence of life.
Courageous students up and down the country are doing just this. Student pro-life societies educate their fellow students by hosting talks and workshops. They provide life affirming alternatives to abortion in an environment where having a child is seen as unthinkable. In places where the pro-abortion/pro-choice ideology is most entrenched, they keep the debate on life ethics open, and proclaim the pro-life message.
APS is there to help. We build, support and connect student pro-life societies by providing advice, resources and training events. We hold conferences, workshops and networking events to enable students to carry on the vital work of spreading the message of life in universities.
Can you help us?
Unfortunately, running APS isn’t free. We rely on monthly and one-off donations from people like you. No donation is too small or too large, and we appreciate anything you can give.
Our current fundraising aim is to expand staff hours. At the moment we have two part time staff members who work a total of four days a week. In order to help more students spread the culture of life at their universities, we need to hire more staff, and to do that, we need your help!
In September 2018 we were able to expand our Student Support Officer’s hours from two days a week to three thanks to the generosity of our supporters. The impact of one extra day has been monumental. In the first six months, she travelled 7,075 miles to give talks and support to students across the country. By the end of that academic year, our SSO had supported three Scottish pro-life societies as they officially affiliated with their Student Unions. She also helped form three pro-life societies in England. Just imagine what we could do with two full time employees!
Thank you for your generous support of the pro-life movement. We could not do what we do without you.
