Vision & Mission
The mission of the Alliance of Pro-Life Students (APS) is to build university communities in England, Scotland and Wales that have a lasting and profound respect for human life from fertilisation to natural death.
We aim to build, support and connect pro-life student societies in universities across Great Britain, helping to build a culture where every human life is seen as unique and irreplaceable. We know that educating and equipping students is crucial if we are to see a culture where people are passionate about defending human lives, and where euthanasia, abortion and embryo destruction are unthinkable and unnecessary.
APS aims to:
build – grow university groups across Great Britain
support – equip students with up-to-date pro-life training and resources
connect – provide a forum for student pro-life discussion and networking
History
APS was formed in February 2012 when 10 students from four different university pro-life societies met for our inaugural conference in Leamington Spa. This meeting came about because of a growing feeling among pro-life students that we needed a body to represent our interests. This was in light of an increase in student pro-life activism, along with new attacks on pro-life societies in the form of pro-choice motions in Students’ Unions.
In May 2012 Eve Farren was appointed as our first Executive Director, and we achieved official company status in September 2012. In November, we held our first launch event in Edinburgh, which was a great success despite the presence of protesters who tried to have our event shut down. This was followed up by a second launch in London in January 2013.
Since then APS has gone from strength to strength, with new pro-life groups starting up and down the country. We increased staff hours in September 2018, with our Student Support Officer now working three days a week, and also hired an Events and Administration Officer one day a week. We run events throughout the year and regularly travel to universities across the country supporting them, giving training sessions and running events. Want to hear how we can best support you? Structure
APS is run by a voluntary board of directors, consisting of recent graduates, who are elected by our members. The board is in charge of running The Alliance of Pro-Life Students. They meet quarterly to discuss new projects and drive the organisation forward alongside our employees.
